Paramount was like, because the whole cast is Black and this was back in the 80s. So it was like, ‘We need to have a white person. There has to be a white person in the movie’…So who was the funniest white guy around? Louie, we knew he was cool, so that’s how Louie got in the movie. —Eddie Murphy

No it’s not shocking and I’m sure it’s still happening albeit not as frequently as in the 80s. On the positive side, Louie Anderson is hilarious so if anyone had to be put in there to make the story more appealing to white audiences, I’m glad it was someone like him.
