I find new things to watch while I make dinner. I’ll put on some random thing that’s popped up, quickly scan it and decide if it’s good enough for background viewing. The Four Seasons met the criteria right away. Actually, I saw Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, and I was sold. Eventually, I hit pause and saved the viewing for later so I could pay full attention. That’s when I knew it would make the Recommendations List.
The Four Seasons is about three middle-aged couples who vacation together every season. Yes, they have the kind of disposable income that most of us cannot fully wrap our minds around, but they are all so deliciously middle-aged that this can be overlooked.
The character development here is excellent and it moves quickly. You get to know these folks fast, so when one of them shows up all suspect, radiating “mistress,” you just know it isn’t going to end well for him. I won’t give you any spoilers, but the twist is unexpected. Such is life, right? And that’s when the real middle-aged dread begins to seep in and make just one more episode a necessary evil.
Also, this show is just funny.
These are a handful of the funniest people you could put in one room, and it’s evident from the moment they get on screen. The best part is that they’re allowed to be actual complex human beings who are in the middle of a life, not at the end of one. By the way, I’m fully the Claude of the group. So give it a shot, Grandpa, and I’ll see you on the other side.
Ahhh, life. You go from “Which one of the Sex and the City characters am I?” to “Which one of the middle-aged Netflix Four Seasons characters am I?” real fast.
