Dramas with a few jokes thrown into the mix will no longer be able to compete as comedies at the Golden Globes

This seems more than fair. This feels just. Judd Apatow was right; The Martian winning for best comedy was uncalled for. Dramas shouldn't get to pick and choose where they want to compete. They're dramas and they already reign supreme. I'm glad the Golden Globes have decided to give comedy the respect it deserves.

If the Character is Japanese, why not cast someone who is actually Asian?

I wonder how many Asian actors auditioned for the part before they decided to go with Scarlett Johansson? I can see why fans of the original Ghost in the Shell (as well as any Asian folks that were hoping to see a movie that reflects the true nature of the original anime) are furious. Us minorities are tired of being erased from our own stories, Hollywood. It's time to do better, Paramount Pictures.

Allowing Texting in Your Theaters is Not the Answer

No. Wrong answer. Maybe instead of letting people indulge in rude behavior when they're at the movies, give them a better experience and fewer reasons to get bored while waiting for their movie to start. There are theaters that offer beer and wine as well as dinner options with their screenings. How about that? Encouraging people to be distracted during a movie isn't going to work for them or anyone around them. Keep brainstorming, AMC.

A sequel to The Shining?

It looks like that just might be the case. There's no director yet, but Akiva Goldsman has signed on to adapt Doctor Sleep (the sequel Stephen King wrote for The Shining). I always keep my fingers crossed for an upcoming sequel, but I never get my hopes up too high. Rarely does this sort of thing pan out. I don't think the film version of The Shining needs a sequel and I don't understand why movie makers can't just leave the classics alone. Oh wait, money. That's why. My fault. Carry on.

Some theaters are banning young kids from R-rated movies, even if they showed up with an adult.

I can understand if this pisses off some of the parents out there, but it's pretty awkward when you're an adult at an R-rated film and a little one starts talking loudly, yelling or even questioning the things that are happening on screen. I say awkward, but what I mean is annoying. Some places just weren't meant for small children. Thoughts?

The Brainwashing of My Dad's theatrical release (NY & LA) is happening this week.

I've known about this one for a long time and since I'm big on politics and current events, I've been deeply interested from the start. Sadly, I wasn't in town when this premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival here in San Jose, but I can't wait to catch it when it finds wider distribution. For now, the NY and LA premiers are set for this Friday, March 18th.
